The GMT presents two “ships of opportunity” – the “Dagmar Aaen” with its skipper Arved Fuchs & “Seaexplorer – Yacht Club de Monaco” with its skipper Boris Herrmann. Both ships took a long journey and sailed in water, where no or few scientific data is available.

The slogan “the science we need for the ocean we want” is presented by the UN Ocean Decade and it describes the mission to improve the knowledge about our oceans. The “ships of opportunity” are collecting oceanographical and meteorological data during their trips. But more data is needed: Ships like freighters, cruise ships, ferries or sailing ships passing the oceans are called to participate.

Blending the information with real-time analytics will create context with the environment. SubCtech is proud to be a sponsor and to have installed an OceanPack system on board the “Dagmer Aaen” and “Seaexplorer – Yacht Club de Monaco” for the collection of the scientific data, which is forwarded into scientific databases like ICOS.
